Inspired by the legacy of Benjamin Banneker, Quota will collaborate with artist Alejandro Pintado to design a temporary public art installation at the Banneker Park/10th Street Overlook. The site was constructed in 1971 as the first parcel of public land commemorating an African-American in the nation’s capital. Scheduled for the Fall of 2016, the project will incorporate elements from a range of disciplines, including astronomy, city planning, and the study of time – all cornerstones of Banneker’s career and contributions. Working with DC-based design and architecture students, the artist will install an imagined constellation around the park with dozens of sculptural objects that will be visible night and day.
